Description

In medieval times, the theory and practice of reflecting on the transient nature of earthly life was known as "memento mori": a Latin phrase translating to "remember that you must die". Artists have explored the concepts of memento mori in a number of unique ways throughout history, developing a universal language of rich visual symbolism over time. Common elements of this genre include skulls, nature and flowers. The artwork symbolises ephemeral nature of life, the awareness impermanence heightens appreciation of the present.

Butterflies symbolise rebirth and transformation. They have always featured heavily in my art, exploring themes of transformation and fragility in the forms of butterflies. I create small editions or one-of-a-kind pieces. I live life consciously, in appreciation for the smaller details of nature, striving to illuminate aspects of a subject that may go unnoticed. In a frenetic world, nature teaches us harmony and I am compelled to express this message through my art.
