Description

These hand-bound concertina books are made up of watercolour paper, folded like an accordion and stitched together in two places with white linen thread. They have hard covers and ribbon ties made of naturally dyed bamboo silk.

Concertina books are perfect for creative storytelling, with two sides to work on and possibilities for panoramas, visual poetry and juxtapositions when working across panes and folding and unfolding them. The watercolour paper is suitable for a wide range of uses and mediums, including ink and paint, or to use as a photo album.

I combine traditional bookbinding techniques with paper making, calligraphy and letterpress printing to create handcrafted paper goods for dreamers and storytellers.

I am inspired by the layers of stories and memories that make up our world, in books, maps, buildings and landscapes, and the crafts behind treasured objects.

My work seeks to reconnect with a childhood magic of tales and make-believe, and to bring more imagination and escapism into daily life.
