Salamis storm is a one of a kind, original artwork by Evi Antonio. Featuring a delicate mix of urban decay and the fragile beauty of moths and butterflies.
My art has always been inspired by nature and it has always featured heavily in my work.
Walking around East London I became very aware of the urban texture and decay. This began to heavily influenced my art, absorbing and translating the decay into infinite patterns. Deconstructing and exploring symmetry which we also see in the natural world, especially in butterflies. This painting is called “ salamis storm” and features the butterfly whose Latin name is ‘salamis’ . The butterfly sits centrally in the design, subtly, blending, almost camouflaged with the background. The background to this artwork was inspired by an old, rusty metal container in East London which I stumbled on. I became fascinated with the endless possibilities and abstract patterns that organically evolved and also in the history of time this container had gone through and it has since featured in many artworks. There is a beauty in the intricacy of decay in a similar way I see in nature and combined, a harmony and balance seemed to develop. This is also different to my other pieces as I was also exploring monotone and the contrast of black and white. I have since designed fabric for upholstery which was an evolution from this artwork which you can see in the photos.

Salamis storm is a one-of-a-kind, digital painting and pigment print on German etching hahnemühle paper, hand finished with acrylic glazes and hand painted varnish.
Framed in a bespoke, hand made, circular frame which is glazed. Hand signed on the back and ready to hang. Price includes packing and shipping. Dimensions 80cm in diameter.
